Love is in the air at the N Seoul Tower
In the middle of the green hills that surround Seoul arises the city’s biggest attraction: the N Seoul Tower. This 237-metre-high tower offers a panoramic view of the metropolis. In the evening, the N Seoul Tower lights up with different colours – an iconic landmark of the city.
A lock on love
The N Seoul Tower has become a romantic sanctuary for couples who wish to declare their eternal love to each other. Just like at the Pont de l'Archevêché in Paris, the gates of the tower are full of padlocks in every colour and size, signed with the names of couples in love. Unlike many other cities, the city of Seoul encourages people to put up the locks: nothing is more beautiful than promoting love. Over the years, the tower has been decorated with thousands of padlocks.
The cultural phenomenon of couples
In a country where kissing on the street is frowned upon – affection should not be displayed in public, but at home – South Koreans express their love in a special way. Couples advertise their relationship by wearing the same outfits. They may wear the same shoes, shirts, jackets, or more intimately, the same underwear. This cultural phenomenon can also be seen at the N Seoul Tower. In the last few years, the couples culture has developed into a big market. Nevertheless, the N Seoul Tower is also worth visiting for singles. In addition to breathtaking views of the city, the tower’s restaurant n.Grill serves an outstanding dinner. Chef Duncan Robertson, who previously worked at Michelin-star restaurants Nobu and L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, prepares the best dishes from the French cuisine. The N Seoul Tower is also fun for children; the viewing platform houses the Teddy Bear Museum, where teddy bears depict the history and culture of South Korea in a fun and playful way.
